Organisation

We are organized in a General Assembly, an Executive Board, a few Councils and four R & D units, which are formed by in house researchers and collaborating researchers.

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the supreme body of the institution and is made up of members in good standing of their statutory rights.

R&D Units

Oceanography, Meteorology & Climatology

This R&D Unit hosts the groups who are investigating the subjects:

  • Large scale ocean circulation;
  • Air-sea interaction, including:
    • Transfer/storage/flux of heat by the oceans and global warming;
    • Tranfer/storage/flux of CO2 and ocean acidification;
  • Meso-scale processes in the ocean: meanders and vortex;
  • Meso-scale processes in the atmosphere: cyclones, typhoons, hurricanes;
  • Coastal circulation, river plumes, waves & tides.

 

Environmental Technology, Pollution, Emergency, Contingency

This R&D Unit hosts the groups who are investigating the subjects:

  • The behaviour of oil in the sea water, including:
    • Oil weathering;
    • Biodegradation;
    • The use of dispersants;
  • Emergency and Contingency, including:
    • The use of boomers & skimmers;
    • Oil spill simulation.
  • Dispersion of sewage plumes and other pollutants in the sea water;
  • Resiliency of mangrove, sand beaches and coral reefs to oil contamination;
  • Lethal content 50% tests.

 

Marine Technology

This R&D Unit hosts the groups who are investigating the subjects:

  • Physical integrity of offshore structures;
  • Dynamic mooring of floating systems;
  • Simulation of stability of umbilicals;

 

Petroleum Technology

This R&D Unit hosts the groups who are investigating the subjects:

  • Geomechanics applied to drilling and construction of wells;
  • Geomechanics applied to reservoir modelling;
  • Physics of formations;
  • Estability of wells;
  • Numerical simulation of dual porosity reservoirs;
  • Extended Reach Wells – ERW;
  • Enhanced Oil Recovery – EOR;
  • Stratigraphy and sedimentology.
